The Canadian and World Studies Department at GBDSS offers several courses in Geography, History, and Law, and Civics and Careers. We offer students an ability to study issues of the past, present, and future of Canada and our world, all while teaching them 21st century skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. Courses
The Canadian and World Studies Department offers compulsory courses in grade 9 and 10.
In grade 9, students will study Issues in Canadian Geography. Here they will combine technological learning and hands-on experiences to learn about the current geographic issues that affect Canadians.
In grade 10, they will study Canadian History since World War I, at the academic, applied, or locally developed level. In this course, students will learn about the people, events, and groups that have shaped the history of our nation and world, and how what we have learned has impacted our present.
Also in grade ten students will study Civics and Citizenship and Careers at the open level. Here, students will learn how our government works, and how to be a responsible citizen.
Students will also continue their studies in Geography, History or Law in grade 11 and 12.

We also learn about more recent societies, including Medieval Europe, the Incan Empire, and peoples like the Mongols and Vikings, and many more! This course offers opportunities to explore ancient peoples and societies of your choosing! |

This course used to be called West and the World, but we know learn so much more. Explore the contributions to the modern world made by people like Leonardo da Vinci, Napoleon Bonaparte and Adolf Hitler while learning about topics such as revolutions, world war, and slavery, all while developing skills needed for success in university. |
